Europe Chapter Fantastic February - meeting notes

02/03/17 7:29am to 02/04/17 7:29am

Our Europe Chapter meetings and seminars started with a Friday Casual Dinner.

Big thank you to our US based CPCU’s that support our chapter and attended. We were honored to have the CPCU Society President, Mike Koscielny as our special guest.

Orlene Arriola, 2015 CPCU International Ambassador, made her way to London all the way from Guam to conduct business in London and join our meeting.

The Saturday Meeting and Seminar kicked off with “around the table” introductions. The chapter was founded in 2003 with ten members and we are now over 65, a great result. We were thrilled to have one third of our members in attendance for this edition of the CPCU Europe Meeting and Seminar.

After the introductions, we jumped into the first of three “CPCU Talks” (think TEDx Talks for insurance people). Alex Dreyer, top industry expert on FinTech (Financial Services and Technology), provided his unique and challenging views on the impact and risks associated with FinTech.

Our Chapter’s recurring ethics discussion was led by Daniel Hess. Dan was followed by CPCU Society President, Mike Koscielny, who highlighted the fact that the CPCU Society offers over 60 webinars on a myriad of compelling insurance subjects.

The second CPCU Talk was led by Mileidy Perez, Head of Environmental Claims for AIG in Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA), She addressed the latest developments in environmental laws, examples of claims and what insuring agreements are now available.

The “Chapter Round table” discussion addressed the issues of: are you getting what you need from the CPCU designation?

The round table was followed by a compelling and informative update on the impact of Britain’s exit from the European Union (Brexit) and the insurance sector. This CPCU Talk, led Mr. Clive O’Connell.

All three “CPCU Talks” presentations and further details on the Ethics and Round Table discussions will be made available on the Europe Chapter’s CPCU Society website.

We closed out the day with Chapter business. It was discussed and agreed:

  • The Chapter will create a stronger outreach program to CPCU candidate members living and working in Europe.
  • The Europe Chapter, in celebration of its 15th anniversary and to make its presence felt, will sponsor a broad market event in February 2018 in London.
  • We opened the nomination process for Chapter President and Vice President. The two-year term would begin on January 1, 2018. If you want to self-nominate or nominate a Chapter colleague to one of these positions please contact Tony Cabot.

We closed our Fantastic February Meeting and Seminar with the Europe Chapter sponsored dinner at the Culpeper, in the up and coming Shoreditch area of London.

Thanks to everyone that attended and helped in the organization of this successful event and don’t forget to mark your calendars for the next Europe Chapter Meeting and Seminar: June 30/July 1, 2017 in Zurich, Switzerland.
